Independent psychologists in Australia on groundpath: what they do, how they are trained and registered, what Medicare covers, and who is listed. Book an online session.
A psychologist is trained in how people think, feel and behave, and works with therapies grounded in research to help with difficulties such as anxiety, depression and the effects of trauma.
Psychologists on groundpath are listed only after their registration has been checked on the public AHPRA register. Each profile says how they work, what they work with and what a session costs.
Psychologist is a protected title: only someone registered with the Psychology Board of Australia, through AHPRA, may use it. General registration follows at least six years of accredited study and supervised practice.
Provisional psychologists are still completing that supervised training, and groundpath does not list them. A clinical psychologist holds an additional AHPRA endorsement in clinical psychology, which groundpath shows only when the register does. Registration is renewed every year, and groundpath checks it again after each renewal.
Sessions with a psychologist can attract a Medicare rebate under Better Access, for up to ten individual sessions in a calendar year, when you have a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan or a referral from a psychiatrist or paediatrician. Sessions with a clinical psychologist attract a higher rebate.
Claims are not lodged through groundpath: ask the psychologist for a receipt showing their Medicare provider number, and claim the rebate in the Medicare app.
