Social workers complete a degree accredited by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW): a Bachelor of Social Work, or a Master of Social Work (Qualifying). "Social worker" is not a protected title in Australia and AASW membership is voluntary.
Groundpath checks each social worker's qualification certificate before listing them, and shows AASW membership on their profile where they have it.
Some social workers hold the AASW's Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AMHSW) credential. Their sessions can attract a Medicare rebate when you have a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan or a referral from a psychiatrist or paediatrician.
Groundpath shows AMHSW on a profile only after checking it with the AASW. Claims are not lodged through groundpath: ask the practitioner for a receipt showing their Medicare provider number.
